Wharekohu Fisheries is located within Fishing Management Area 8 between Mokau and Turakirae Head

Established in 1990, Wharekohu Fisheries is the mandated representative entity for Ati Awa ki Whakarongotai on any matters fishing.

A limited liability company, Wharekohu manages the annual catch entitlement (ACE) lease rounds of Cray & Southern Blue Whiting in April of each year and a variety of wetfish in October of each year. Furthermore, Wharekohu ensures Te Runanga will be eligible for the allocation of fisheries assets.

An Iwi Asset Management Company has been established to receive and manage the assets allocated by Te Ohu Kai Moana ( The Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission).
