A mixture of settlement quota, Aoteroa Fisheries Ltd Company shares & cash
What do we have to do to receive allocation?
Te Ohu Kai Moana administers the process of allocation in accordance with the Maori Fisheries Act 2004. This requires Recognised Iwi Organisations such as Te Runanga o Ati Awa ki Whakarongotai Inc to become a Mandated Iwi Organisation through a process of qualification. This requires the strict establsihment of a legal entity to receive the assets. Further this entity is to seperate its activities of governing the assets, managing the assets and distributing benefits derived from the assets. It is also required to establish and maintain a databse of its membership and be able to display a robust process for the validation of that membership.
Treaty Settlement
When can Whakarongotai expect to settle with the crown
The Waitangi Tribunal has indicated that this inquiry area may be heard in June 2008. Direct negotiations with the Office of Treaty Settlements would then be possible after the Tribunal hears our claim and issues its report. This can take between 12 & 24 months. Direct negotiations can be a lengthy process, somewhere between 4 & 12 years.
